Ivory Coast Laurent Gbagbo appeared in ICC, THE HAGUE

Former Ivory Coast leade Laurent Gbagbo has appeared at the International Criminal Court in The Hague at the hearing to decide if  he face trials for crimes against humanity.

Gbagbo is accused of starting a civil war when he refused to step down in 2010 having lost the presidential elections. There were 300 protesters demanding the charges to be dropped.

An estimate of 3,000 people died during the 2010 4-month civil war in Ivory Coast, the conflict ended when French Troops intervened, Gbagbo was arrested and election winner Alassane Quattara took over the presidency.
